Wedding Cake Decor - Which Sweet Styling is Right for Your Wedding?

Your wedding cake is the grand finale of your wedding reception, so it should be both delicious and beautiful. Youve probably seen dozens of wedding cakes in bridal magazines and you know that there are lots of options for cake decoration. But are some better than others? And, which one is right for you? Before you talk to your wedding cake baker, you should become familiar with the most popular types of wedding cake decoration. Then youll be able to explain exactly what you want on your cake and youll connect with your baker by speaking his language.

Here are some of the most popular types of decoration used on wedding cakes:

Buttercream

Buttercream icing is essentially made up of creamed butter and sugar. It is the classic wedding cake icing and youve probably had it before on a wedding cake or birthday cake. Buttercream is very sweet and can give wedding cake designs a soft and creamy look. Easy to color, buttercream can be used to create flowers and other designs and is usually less expensive than other types of cake decoration. The one caveat with buttercream is that because its base is butter, it does not do well in warm temperatures. If you are having your summer wedding reception outdoors, buttercream is not your best choice.

Fondant

If youve seen a cake with wild shapes and exquisite flowers in a range of different colors, it was probably created with fondant. Fondant is made from gelatin and corn syrup and it can give wedding cakes a look that is both stiff and silky smooth. Fondant is less tasty than buttercream, but fondant can stand up to warmer temperatures without melting and can also be used to create extraordinary designs. Flowers, lace, swirly shapes, butterflies and almost any shape you can think of can be created from fondant.

Marzipan

Marzipan is a confection made from sugar and ground almonds. Its used often on wedding cakes, but can also be found in gourmet shops as brightly colored fruit candies or as the filling inside chocolates. Marzipan can be formed into realistic shapes and is classically used to create fruit shapes like pears, berries, apples and oranges. It can also be used to create flower shapes and can be rolled out and glazed to be used as the main icing a wedding cake.

Chocolate Ganache

Ganache is made from chocolate and heavy cream. It is delicious and very rich. Because chocolate ganache is dark brown, it hasnt completely caught on as a popular way to decorate wedding cakes since most couples want cakes with more lively colors. But when a couple chooses a wedding cake decorated with ganache, it can look extremely sleek and add something wonderfully unexpected to their wedding reception. Unfortunately, like buttercream, ganache should not be used for outdoor receptions in warm weather.

Knowing these cake decoration methods will help you choose the wedding cake thats right for you. When you understand what the different wedding cake decorations are, you can get exactly the kind of wedding cake you want and thats sure to give your wedding a very sweet outcome.

How to Spot an Undude!

Johnny Depp is a dude. Hugh Jackman is a dude. Even perennially cute Hugh Grant is a dude. Going desi, Abhishek Bachchan is a dude. There are some guys/boys/men you see and the only way to describe them is, "Now that's a dude." Yet there are others who you know are the 'undudes'. But who is an undude and are you dating one? Don't be in the blind.

Here's how you spot an undude and completely avoid him!

When you're at a party

Before you see him, you will hear him. While the dudes will be chilling, the Undude will be screaming, "C'mon everybody, let's groooove. ld's a parrrty." It's easier spotting them at a costume party - the Batmen, Zorros and Supermen are easily the undudes. No imagination and a preference for spandex.

When you are at work

The loudest mouth, the biggest ideas and an eagerness to please the higher ups. That's an undude.

Before you get into bed with him!

If you're considering his-place-or-yours, here's a small test to check the 'dude-ability' of your lust/love interest. A dude, will ALWAYS carry condoms in his wallet. An undude will never. Check the moment there's any opportunity-preferably when you are still contemplating 'it'. If you don't find one, cut the contemplation and get out.

When it's time for goodnight

The ultimate test is the goodbye-kiss stage. A dude will either shake hands or kiss your cheek. The undude however, before you know, will either have his tongue in your mouth or his hands all over you. Practice groin kicks and move on.

When you're playing the field

Women who date will tell you that the hardest thing yet is going through a series of undudes before you meet The Dude. Hopefully, you've not had to experience one. However, this is the final indication. An undude is a whiner. Beat him at a board game, he will fight. Debate on an issue and he'd either scream at you or throw a tantrum. His job sucks, his boss sucks, he needs more money, his mother doesn't call enough... Women are good at worrying about things anyway. You really don't need a guy doing it for you. Happy avoiding and happy spotting, er, eyeing... the Dude we mean.
